NBCUniversal

Creative Marketing Intern

June - August 2019 • New York City, NY

What I liked

NBCUniversal is characterized by a work-culture that truly values its employees and interns. As a Summer Creative Marketing Intern, I felt that my voice and contributions to my team were valued, and there were a lot of opportunities and projects that allowed me to expand upon my skills and build my network.

What I wish was different

My confidence level in my skills when I first entered the internship.

Advice

Be confident in yourself, trust the process, and do your best work, because you never know who around you is watching. Also, don't be afraid to ask for assistance or advice from the people you work around, nine times out of ten they are more than willing to be of service to you and help.

What I liked

Culture, Team

Easy to do well if you socialize with all coworkers, especially from different departments. I don't think internship is great if you want to work on technical projects. I had a lot of fun though!!

Business Strategy & Development Intern

June - August 2018 • Los Angeles, CA

What I liked

The opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the team was the most enticing component to this internship. My boss outlined a very clear framework in 3 parts to how he wanted me to get the most out of the summer and that truly came to fruition.

What I wish was different

I wish I had met other business unit executives earlier in my internship period so that I could try to work on more projects within other units and get more exposure to the company. I started this a bit later into the internship which inhibited my ability to fully dig into some projects.

Advice

Work hard but make the most out of the network that you can build while being immersed in a workplace of incredibly talented and smart people.

What I liked

The community was definitely the greatest aspect of the experience.

What I wish was different

That I had applied earlier so I could've worked in software as opposed to IT

Advice

Apply early, and reach out to connections. Make sure to network at your internship.

Media Tech Intern

June - August 2017 • Universal City, CA

What I liked

Interns were encouraged to explore their interests within the company throughout the summer by attending networking events, meeting with employees in different departments, and working with other interns. Projects allowed for creativity and I had the ability to shape my own experience. Mentorship was readily available and we were encouraged to reach out to leaders within the company to meet with and learn from them.

What I wish was different

If we were allowed to pick our department/mentor, it may have allowed for an even better experience.

Advice

Be as outgoing as possible and make sure to make connections with as many people in as many different departments as possible. Don't be afraid to email someone who has a job that interests you, as it may lead to future opportunities.

E! News Reporting Intern

June - August 2017 • Universal City, CA

What I liked

I was not treated like an intern and was immediately integrated by the team as one of their own. I learned a lot about the reporting field and entertainment industry as a whole. The program had many different opportunities for networking and expanding my knowledge. I was able to meet so many people I have always looked up to and work side by side with them as a colleague.

What I wish was different

I wish I had done a little more research on the brand so it would be easier for me to distinguish what was and was not important.

Advice

Take advantage of your supervisor. They're there to help you and they want to help you. Use them to your advantage to learn. Shadow them. And always be proactive. If you finish the task given, see where you can step in.

Ad Sales Intern

June - August 2017 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I really enjoyed how HR encouraged us to reach out to people outside of our teams to schedule information interviews with. We had hands on experience and I really felt like I was apart of the team. We also had the opportunity to do an intern project with a small group of ad sales interns and present it to executives at the end of the summer.

What I wish was different

I wish I had the opportunity to work with the other ad sales teams but ad sales at NBCU is so large that each ad sales intern was assigned to a specific team.

Advice

Always bring a pen and notepad with you whenever you go to meet someone even if you are just stopping by a desk. Also, make sure to send follow up emails and thank you emails after people take time to spend with you.

Publicity Intern for Cable Entertainment - E! Network

May - December 2017 • Los Angeles, CA

What I liked

I enjoyed the practical PR experience. I was also able to learn about the television industry as a whole, which is extremely valuable information. The team was very helpful and kind, I had coffee multiple times with the Senior VP of PR for the network and felt like I built real-world connections. I really enjoyed the amount of trust I was given to complete certain projects as well. This was a hands-on internship where I was never bored and gained practical experience across the board.

What I wish was different

I wish I had more writing opportunities.

Advice

Always ask questions and offer help.
