What I liked

My customer experience at the YMCA has prepared me for working in a results-oriented, team-centered environment. I led to create new members for the YMCA, perform tours for prospects as well as signing up for programs and memberships. It was easy to demonstrate a strong work ethic as well as a positive environment where members feel welcomed, encouraged, and motivated to be involved with the YMCA.

What I wish was different

I wish there was more assistance with assignments that were not clearly explained but overall they are trying to help you grow.

Advice

One piece of advice I would share about this experience is that try to implement your soft skills in this work environment and connect better with the Richmond community. Being outspoken in this job field will help grow your network.

For the YMCA to lend me a one year free membership instead of the length I was there.

What I liked

Being a camp counselor at the Ymca was a wonderful experience. I loved working with kids of all ages and getting to know them. I was able to watch the kids grow and learn as the summer went on. They were excited each day and it was definitely a great learning experience.

What I wish was different

Spending more time getting to know the children who needed more attention in the beginning of summer would have helped those kids create better friendships with others.

Advice

Getting to know each individual child is important because they are all so different. Teaching them the core values of the Ymca; caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility was not as difficult as you would think. The children are all so different and many of them have created such great friendships and memories. In any type of job working with children, it is very important to get to know each individual.

What I liked

I liked that I got experience with youth because that is the field of study I am going into. It was also fun because I got to do fun things like zip lining, kayaking, and mountain biking.

What I wish was different

The pay. It was ridiculous. It was 50 bucks for 11 hours of work.
