Attest Services Intern

June - August 2019 • Seattle, WA

What I liked

The culture of the company was very welcoming and friendly. I got to know a ton of people and enjoyed working the team I had. They treated me as if I was an associate, which allowed me to have direct contact with the clients and get real expose and insight as to what working for Grant Thornton is really like.

What I wish was different

I wish the internship could have gone longer than 8 weeks

Advice

When interviewing with multiple companies, don't worry so much about which job is the perfect match for you, look more for what culture seems to fit best with you as a person.

Audit Intern

June - August 2019 • Philadelphia, PA

What I liked

I loved the culture that Grant Thornton provides. The people I worked with made working truly enjoyable and I am grateful that I had the opportunity to work with the Philadelphia office.

What I wish was different

There wasn't much to critique because the time I worked at Grant Thornton was great. There were intern events every Friday which was great because we could talk to other people in the other service lines.

Advice

I would advise you to have fun and make those relationships with the associates and seniors. Really take on their culture, that is the best way that you'll get an idea of how the company would be if you worked full time.

Audit Intern

June - August 2019 • Boston, MA

What I liked

I enjoyed meeting fellow interns and upper level management; I was able to create meaningful relationships and expand my professional netwrok. I also appreciated obtaining real world experience and being able to actually apply what I have learned in the classroom over the past four years to real world situations.

What I wish was different

I wish I had more time! I loved everything about my internship and it was hard to leave. Looking back on my experience I wish I had asked more questions and was not afraid to show my inexperience to senior level staff.

Advice

Start the process early. Actively seek out employers early in your college career to give you as much time to find what companies peek your interest, share your common values, and get you excited for a career after college.

What I liked

The people, culture, and the variety of work I was able to do.

What I wish was different

The commute was long some days and didn't make sense (other interns were closer to that area and we could have switched clients)

Advice

Give the company your respect and do your best. You'll get the most out of it if you have fun and work hard.

Audit Intern

May - August 2018 • Baltimore, MD

What I liked

A small and personal office with highly competent senior associates and managers. During the summer I was able to learn many different testing procedures and work with individuals/teams who took the time to explain each process to me. I was also surprised to see how engaged the partners were with the rest of the office- especially the interns.

What I wish was different

Audit and tax offer very different lifestyles when it comes to public accounting. The travel associated with audit was tiresome and not for me... although I enjoyed the work, I'll be returning to GT this spring to undergo a tax internship.

Advice

Network early in your college career. My relationship with the GT Baltimore office began in the beginning of my sophomore year. Through this connection, I'll have the convenience of having both an audit and tax internship by the time I graduate and a full-time position waiting for me next fall.

Forensic Advisory Intern

June - August 2018 • Boston, MA

What I liked

Grant Thornton provided an excellent internship program with many fun events, as well as a coach/buddy system that paired you with peers and mentors within your department. I was working on projects from my very first day and was doing work that felt both meaningful and valuable.

What I wish was different

More variation in assignments (I was on the same project for most of the summer)

Advice

GT is a fantastic company to work for and they have a strong "people first" mentality that really shows.

June - August 2018 • Portland, OR

What I liked

I really enjoyed getting to know everyone that works there. I also really enjoyed getting out to a client and digging in to their processes. Every day I learned something new.

What I wish was different

I wish I had gotten to go out to clients more often. I had a total of three engagements but one of them we did from the office.

Advice

Get to know as many people as you can even if they don't work in your particular field.

Tax Accountant

January - April 2017 • Wichita, KS

What I liked

I got to work on assignments that any 1st year associate would work on. I was depended on and treated like a new hire instead of an intern. My co-workers were all very friendly and wonderful. They had patience with teaching me new things and gave informative feedback when needed.

What I wish was different

I wish there had been more opportunities for overtime so that I could learn more. It was a full 40 hours a week still though.

Advice

Carry a notepad with you everywhere. You never know when you need to jot down information. Also read back what you have written to verify you have all the correct information/directions.

Audit Intern

June - July 2017 • Columbia, SC

What I liked

The people I worked with genuinely cared that I was learning throughout my internship. They didn't just tell me to do something, but they made sure to explain why it needed to be done and what was important about it. I also got to work in multiple different areas. I traveled to see clients, both public and private and audited both pension plans and tested controls, and I also worked some in the office. I feel as though I was really able to get a great overall view of what it would be like to work for Grant Thornton. Although, I was an intern, I was treated as a first year, and I felt respected by everyone in the office. It was such a great experience overall for me, and I feel so lucky to have had this amazing opportunity!

What I wish was different

I only wish that it had been a little bit longer just so that I could have gained more experience.

Advice

You can never ask too many questions! In the beginning, I was a little nervous about asking questions because I didn't want to be annoying, but after I started asking more and more, I really realized how much more I was able to learn because of it. Also, if you don't have anything to do, you should definitely ask people in the office if they need help with anything!

What I liked

I loved the culture at GT and the company's overall values. Also, my team was always so patient when explaining to me new concepts and technologies related to the audit.

What I wish was different

I didn't love the location of my client (but that's not necessarily GT's fault it's the client).

Advice

Be open to learning and be patient with yourself.
