Cashier

May 2020 • Saratoga Springs, NY

What I liked

The front desk staff were very helpful with training and I made a lot of friends with the employees.

What I wish was different

They were going through a remodel during a pandemic and that was stressful for customers who find cashiers to complain to even though it’s not our fault. They could have been more organized and open to the public about it.

Advice

Always be polite to people. You have a choice to be kind so be kind.

Cashier

April - August 2020 • Omaha, NE

What I liked

They were very flexible during the summer, and I was almost able to make my own schedule. It also was something I learned quickly, which was nice.

What I wish was different

I wish they would have actually trained me more, and they left me on my own after about a day. They were a little disorganized and on my very first day it was hard to know where to go.

Advice

If you’re looking for something relatively easy and fast paced, this is a good job for you!

Cafe Associate

August 2019 - March 2020 • Flagstaff, AZ

What I liked

When I was an associate at Sam's Club, I liked how they gave you a free Plus Membership to the club. It helped out because I was able to use the membership to buy groceries, electronics, and other essentials while in college. In addition, the associates that I worked with were very nice and conversational.

What I wish was different

I wish that I applied to a different department of Sam's Club. I worked in the Cafe, but I think that working in the bakery would have been more fun.

Advice

Sam's Club is flexible with scheduling, so they are willing to work with a college student's schedule. In addition, there were many benefits to working at this club.

What I liked

I began this job opportunity feeling down after COVID changed my summer plans for an internship. However, i quickly found that the support of friendly and welcoming coworkers made this a worth wild learning experience for retail sales as well as sales of membership and credit offerings.

What I wish was different

I wish there had been more transparency in the training and expectations portion of the onboarding program. I found that I began work without a clear understanding of the services I was asked to sell to members.
